Marine Diesel Basics                                       
Captain John Martino of Annapolis School of Seamanship will run through the basics of marine diesel engines and troubleshooting some common problems.    

Boat Buying 101                                              
Boat buying is a process. Learn a few simple strategies for finding the boat you want, plus get a heads up on what you need to do once you’ve found it. Chesapeake Bay Magazineeditor-at-large Janie Meneely talks about the registering, insuring and financing of your new (or new to you) boat, plus what to know and do before you sign on any dotted lines.

Captain Paul Truelove of Annapolis School of Seamanship will discuss the USCG requirements for sea time, application and examination procedures for getting your captain’s license.

Collision Avoidance
Boating accidents are usually preventable. Captain John Martino will discuss how to avoid collisions underway including the use of RADAR, AIS, VHF and ARPA.

Safe Boating - What to Know Before Leaving the Dock?  
This seminar will cover what you need to know before you leave the dock. From required safety equipment, to registration and licensing, you will learn how to prepare yourself and your boat for safe boating.
 

Fishing the Chesapeake Bay  
The Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Coast are world-class sportfishing destinations, offering nearly year-round fishing. From the Susquehanna Flats and Eastern Shore grass flats to the Bay Bridge Tunnel this seminar will offer an overview of fishing opportunities ranging from jigging and trolling to kayak fishing. The Chesapeake holds huge numbers of the legendary striped bass (rockfish) and attracts bluefish, speckled trout, red and black drum. The Atlantic coast attracts tuna, marlin and other bluewater species. Also, yellow perch, pickerel and crappie abound in tidal rivers.

Learning to Sail in the Virgin Islands  
Capt. Eric Petterson of Maryland School of Sailing and Seamanship will discuss weather expectations, navigation (lines of position, dead reckoning, using a hand bearing compass) points of sail (working to weather, sailing downwind, sailing off the wind), setting a preventer, dealing with customs, wave action, man overboard, maneuvering under power, dealing with anchorages and moorings, currents between islands and earning your bareboat certification.
