Maryland Safe Boater Course

A Maryland Safe Boater card is required if you were born after July 1, 1972 and want to drive a motor boat or personal watercraft in Maryland waters. But this basic safety training is beneficial to all boaters. Annapolis School of Seamanship and the Progressive® Insurance Baltimore Boat Show® have teamed up to offer you a chance to take the Maryland Safe Boating class at the show.

This 8-hour course is broken into two four-hour sessions on Thursday and Friday evenings from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The $75 tuition fee includes all training materials, refreshments during class breaks, three tickets to the show, and a $25 gift certificate for future classes at Annapolis School of Seamanship.

Students younger than sixteen years of age must be accompanied by an adult. All adult chaperones may attend to class but will only be issued a safe boater card with an additional $25 fee. Chaperones who do not wish to attend the class can wait in the break lounge area. Learn how to be safe on the water!

Story time with Blackbear the Pirate

 
Come and meet local author Steve Buckley and listen to the adventures of Black Bear. Steve will be signing books as well as creating some fun activities for the kids.
 
Author Steve Buckley specializes in maritime events associated with the "Golden Age of Piracy." He is also the author of Blackbear the Pirate—a beautifully illustrated picture book series of adventure stories for beginning readers that feature a pirate crew made up of bears.

Welcome to the Water Coloring Contest Just for Kids! Let your little Rembrandt or DaVinci apply his/her talents to creating a boating-themed picture. Simply download and print the coloring page and bring the finished work of art to the show office. Artwork will be displayed in the Show Lobby. All entries will be judged and the winning picture will be printed in Prop Talk Magazine after the show!

Meet Rick Krivda

Former Baltimore Orioles pitcher Rick Krivda will be at the show Saturday, from Noon–2pm. 

  • Spent 12 years in professional baseball, eight of them in the Orioles organization.
  • Pitched for the Orioles for three years, 1995-97, and split the 1998 season between the Indians and Reds. Went 11-16 overall, with a 5.57 ERA in his big league career.
  • With the Orioles, went 9-14 with a 5.13 ERA in 45 games, including 34 starts over three seasons. Was a member of Orioles playoff teams in ’96 and ’97.
  • Won a gold medal as a member of the United States team in the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia, the first year professional players were eligible
  • Was selected by the Orioles in the 23rd round of the 1991 amateur draft.
